Bruins Drama Club

Bruins Drama Club
Field trip to CTA, Ashland, Wi.

Wednesday, March 26, 2014

It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas...sorry Spring!  I believe that Spring will show up soon!
Our Drama Club has begun practice for our Spring production of..."Wizard of Oz".  We are practicing 3 days each week in the school library.  Mark your calenders so that you can join us for the play on May 16th.

The 2nd graders are learning about Word.  They are fascinated by with changing the color of the font!  Many of the students even asked if they could continue to "play" on Word during their earned free time!  We are working on a wild animal slide presentation in 3rd grade.  They have prepared a title slide and must have 10 favorite wild animals with a vertical word art font.  Several students are on their 15th favorite animal slide!
4th graders are working on PowerPoint with a presentation about themselves!  They are working with photos from home and photos we have taken here in class.  5th grade will be working on biographies and bringing them to life.  Junior High students continue to improve their keyboarding skills among many other assignments.  OLL students are the best!

Happy Spring!

Snow anyone???  I believe we have had our share for this winter.  I know that spring will be here soon because our spring drama production will be getting underway very soon!  I am just finishing up the script for our latest production..."Wizard of Oz".  Sign up and auditions will be happening sometime the 2nd week of March.  If you are interested in helping with costumes, props, scenery, etc., just let me know via my e-mail rparent@ourladycs.org or call OLL school and leave a message.

The kindergarten and 1st graders have really mastered basic computer terms.  Quiz them at home on icons, background picture, monitor, computer tower, mouse, keyboard, printer, speaker, and more!  They are all doing well opening applications and shutting them down too.
2nd graders have been working hard on learning where the letters are on the keyboard...they are not ready for typing yet, but they are familiar with the keyboard.  We have begun to explore and use the Word application.
3rd graders are learning what power point is and they have done their 1st power point on favorite candies!
4th and 5th graders continue to learn more about power point and using it for presentations.
Jr. High students continue to work with word, powerpoint, keyboarding, and more.

The school newspaper has been a challenge with the holidays, MAPS testing, and snow days, but we managed to put together a combined Jan/Feb paper out on Feb. 14th.  We are working on March now!

If you have any pictures you would like to submit for the yearbook, school newspaper, or the 8th grade video...please send them in!

Blessings!

Winter

As we approach the final week before Christmas vacation, I am reminded of the wonderful love of Jesus that shines in our students here at OLL.  It is bliss to be able to share and celebrate the hope, love, peace, and joy that this season brings with celebration of the birth of our Savior.
Our classes in library have been exciting.  We are reading during each library time and I am happy to see many of the children checking out new books each week.  I do ask that you remind and help your child to return their library book each week.  If they forget to bring it in on their scheduled library day, they should bring it in the next day and hand it in to their teacher who will place it in my mailbox in the office.

Computer classes continue with keyboarding, Microsoft word, power point, excel, and various online activities geared toward each age group.

The school newspaper, "The Bruin Buzz" is up and running.  Our next paper will be for sale next Monday, December 16...for only .25¢...be sure to send a quarter with your student on Monday.

Our Bruin basketball season came to a victorious end with our last game Monday, December 9th.  We went into overtime against the Washburn Castleguards and won with a last minute basket for a score of 45-43!  Thanks to all our basketball players, cheerleaders, coaches and fans!

Have a very Blessed and Merry Christmas,
Mrs. Parent

Happy Halloween!!!  Today was a wonderful day here at school.  It is amazing to watch the entire student body get together and parade in their Halloween attire.  I am reminded of how fast time passes by as I watch my children each year, looking like they did in preschool in my mind, but seeing how fast and grown up they are fast becoming.  Have a fun and safe evening if you are doing the rounds this evening with your little ones.
Just a reminder that our Scholastic Book Fair begins November 4th...Monday thru Friday November 8th from 8am - 4pm.  I hope to see you in the Library for a great deal on a new book!  Each purchase helps our school purchase new books for our school library as well as books for classrooms...

As always if you have any questions regarding computers, library, cheerleading, or drama club...please give me a call here at school or message me via e-mail at rparent@ourladycs.org

Sincerely,
Mrs. Parent

Our first week of school is at an end...and what an exciting week it has been.  Our school has been blessed with a wonderful new Principle and some great new students.  I love seeing all of our returning students and their amazing changes from last year...they do grow so fast!  I am very happy to once again to teach computer class, library, coach the drama club and cheerleaders.  Our cheerleaders will be sporting new outfits this year!
Thanks to all who helped us raise the necessary funds.
I went on the field trip to Big Top Chequataqua with our 3rd - 8th grade students. Big Top offered a musical journey about conservation and water... I am proud to say that our students were wonderful representatives of our school...thank you parents for some amazing kids!!!

I look forward to a great school year.

My children at the School Carnival
As we approach the end of the year...please take a look around and see if you spot any Library Books that need to be returned to school.  I will send home the overdue list of books that your child may have somewhere at home.  Even if it not their library day, please go ahead and send it back to school.  If students are unable to bring them to the library, they may give them to their teacher or put it in my mailbox in the office.

We are currently collecting items for a "yard" sale sponsored by OLL Home and School Association.  If you have any unwanted items in good condition, please drop them off at school.  We have a drop off bin inside the North Entrance of school in the lobby.  We are also asking that you not send us clothes or ancient computer devices(like monitors that are so big they look like aliens)...thanks so much!  Any electronics should be in working order.  If you would like to help set up, work at or clean up after the sale...let us know with a phone call or email.  The sale is June 22 and will be happening rain or shine since we get to use our wonderful Social Hall.  We will set up the Friday before the sale.

Field day will be on May 31, Leona Pliss is in charge of the event and is still looking for a few volunteers!

Congratulations to our new Home and School Association President, Eric Maynes and our new Secretary/Treasurer, Marti Maynes...it will be a great year!

Marti will be putting together an all school cookbook.  We are asking families, students, and Church members to submit up to 2 recipes.  Forms will be going out this week and will have extra in the school office, the pc office, and in the lobby.

Have an amazing day!
